Alex’s Dartmoor Challenge
Alex was filmed by the BBC this week for Country file which will air on Sunday at 5.50pm. He LOVED being driven up to Haytor quarry in a 4×4 by Tim Russell from Dartmoor National Park and found this very exciting! Alex got to meet Sammi Kinghorn, a Paralympic wheelchair athlete who will be chatting to him on camera.
Alex is a very happy and active seven year old who was born with PFFD (Proximal Focal Femoral Deficiency) and Fibula Hemimelia. Basically this means when he was born his left leg was much shorter than the right, and with no ‘scaffolding’ to hold it up. He has no ball and socket joint in his left hip and virtually no femur bone. Despite this, Alex has always adapted well and ever since he can remember he’s been wearing a prosthetic leg. Last summer he got his first running blade which has been brilliant and has enabled Alex to be more active; running and jumping around with his friends.
On Saturday 25th March Alex will be completing a hiking challenge across Dartmoor to raise money for LimbPower, and to enable other families to attend these events.
